Our Ancient Roots and Modern Challenges

We are hunter-gatherers and foragers by nature. As a species approximately 400,000 years old, our genome hasn’t had time to adapt to industrialized food and the decline of daily movement. Bone strength began decreasing around 7,000 years ago during the Neolithic period as rudimentary farming introduced grain-based diets. This decline persisted through the Roman period, about 2,000 years ago, leading to the sedentary lifestyles we see today.

To combat these imbalances, we coach clients on creating meal plans, shopping lists, and healthy recipes, restoring wellness impacted by industrialized food and inactivity.

The Impact of Diet on Metabolic Health

Two Drivers of Metabolic Disease

Based on evidence-based science, two major contributors to metabolic disease are:

  • Malnutrition: Insufficient or imbalanced nutrient intake.

  • Lack of Daily Physical Activities: Reduced movement contributes to health risks.

A 2023 study by NCBI found that 63.3% of the population has metabolic syndrome. Men were slightly more likely to be affected (52.5%) than women (47.5%), and the prevalence increases significantly with age.

Types of Malnutrition

Undernutrition
When essential nutrients are lacking or excreted too quickly, individuals may experience wasting, stunting, or underweight conditions. Deficiencies in iron, zinc, vitamin A, and iodine are common among the undernourished.

Overnutrition
Consuming too much food or the wrong types, combined with insufficient exercise, leads to overweight and obesity. Overnutrition can increase the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and other chronic conditions.

Our Approach to Nutrition Intervention

Wellness Academy USA’s nutrition intervention program addresses chronic metabolic diseases by using data from anthropological studies, including:

  • Modern hunter-gatherer populations like the Tsimané

  • Blue Zone regions with high concentrations of centenarians

  • Clinical studies supporting the Mediterranean diet and Adventist Health Study 2

This approach focuses on a return to organic, pre-Neolithic diets and active lifestyles. Our program has successfully helped manage arthritis, heart disease, high blood pressure, type II diabetes, obesity, and cognitive diseases.

Functional & Adaptive Physical Activities

Our physical activities incorporate both simple and advanced movements to develop strength and flexibility. These include:

  • Bodyweight activities such as squatting, standing, and balancing

  • Advanced exercises like push-ups, pull-ups, climbing, swimming, and core work

  • Cross-brain activities using balls to improve coordination and cognitive function

We focus on training at your current ability level, gradually progressing over time. Clients learn to walk at “gate-speed” and engage in game-based activities to improve both physical and mental well-being without feeling overwhelmed.

Lifestyle Wellness Program: Integrated Coaching and Training

Our lifestyle wellness program combines:

  • Dynamic stretching for increased muscle flexibility

  • Cardiorespiratory conditioning to boost microcirculation

  • Strength training to improve muscle, tendon, and bone density

  • Fasting protocols to balance blood sugar levels

  • Healthy fat consumption (DHA, EPA, ALA) for brain and heart health

Measuring Health Outcomes

We track progress using the following biomarkers and metrics:

  1. Total cholesterol

  2. Triglycerides

  3. HDL/LDL ratio

  4. Blood sugar (A1C) levels

  5. Weight/BMI

  6. Blood pressure

  7. Waist-to-hip ratio

  8. Physical activity levels (8k–10k steps daily)

  9. Quality sleep (7–8 hours per night)

  10. Positive mindset (Happiness Index)
